URL redirects for your online store

URL redirects for an online store send an old address to a new one. WebRank adds redirects when product or collection addresses change, and lets you add your own.

Quick facts

  • Choose 301 permanent or 302 temporary.
  • Redirects are added automatically when a product or collection address changes.
  • A visits count shows how often each is used.
  • Starter costs Rs 4,999 per month.

Why redirects matter

A deleted or renamed page gives visitors an error. Google also loses the page it had indexed.

  • Old links in ads and posts keep working.
  • Visitors reach the right page.
  • Google follows a 301 to the new address.

Add a redirect

  1. Open URL redirects in the admin.
  2. Enter the old address, for example /products/old-name.
  3. Enter the new address, for example /products/new-name.
  4. Pick 301 Permanent or 302 Temporary.
  5. Press Add redirect.

Can I redirect to another site? The new address can be a full address, but the old one must be a path on your store.

Automatic redirects

When you change a product or collection address, WebRank adds a redirect from the old one. Blog posts and pages that you rename also keep the old address pointing to the new one.

You can delete any redirect from the list.

Moving from another platform

If your old store used different addresses, add a redirect for each important old page. Start with best sellers and top collections.

  • List your old product addresses.
  • Match each to the new product address.
  • Add them one by one in URL redirects.
  • Check the Visits column to see which are used.

A simple checking routine

After you add redirects, open the old address in a browser and confirm it lands on the new page. Check the Visits column a week later. A rule with zero visits may not be needed, but it does no harm.

Limits

  • Redirects are added one at a time. There is no bulk import in this screen.
  • The list shows the latest 500 rules.
  • Chains are followed up to 5 hops.
  • A redirect that points to itself or would loop is refused.
  • Query strings and anchors on the old address are ignored.
